You say tomato, I say tomahto
You know what I do a lot? Pronounce words … differently.
If feel that I have license to do this simply because there are soooo many accents jostling about, and therefore soooo many different "legitimate" ways to pronounce a single word. So why not go one better and create my own designer pronounciations? Why not indeed?
What's an example? Well, there's corollary. I like to say it "core ahl' eree." Very fast and fluid. Just sounds nicer. And sometimes I'll lean on an accent to help a word along. Take the mundane and plodding "appliance." The word falls on the ear with a thud. No life, no joy. But pronounce it "ah pleance" (heavy French accent helpful) and it soars, it sings! That's the way I like my "refreesh-era-door".
Any of you guys ever do this?
- And that's today's word from the bird

Yeah, I do this. I also sometimes randomly shift in and out of an accent from various places: Russia, Germany (I think), Britain, Australia (badly done), and on one occasion, Jamaican.
Yeah, I'm always speaking words with the wrong pronunciation because I'm thinking of a different accent or I just say the word in a way that helps me to spell it. My friends are always trying to correct my pronunciation and I'm always correcting their spelling. Se la vi.
And when I'm speaking in one language it's easy for me to accidentally use words from another for a thought that I don't know how to express in the first one.
I have a hard time doing that with big words, but, with smaller words my tongue will not get tied. You have such an incredible talent with pronouncing mundane words! You have a lot of talents with cartooning, too. Keep up the fun works!
I'll try!
We do it in jest. Have you ever seen the cartoon "The Angry Beavers"? Norbert pronounces some words in a very strange way…not exactly an accent; I'm not sure what you would call it. My favorite one to mispronounce is "Aha!". Dagget (also from Angry Beavers) pronounces it "A-hah!" (long A) and ever since I heard that, that's how I say it.
Yup. That's not still being made, is it? They were very angry beavers indeed.
Unfortunately not. And you can't even buy it on DVD legally – Nick sold out and won't re-stock. Too bad, because it was hilarious! *Stupid mime EEEH stupid mime EEH*
Michigan – Mitch-iggin
Connecticut – Cinnect – i -cut
Florida – Flor – Ida (LIke Ore-Ida)
There's more, but those are the only ones coming to mind ATM.
"core ahl' eree" was already one of the "legitimate" ways to say it, sorry.
Some Cincinnatians pronounce "Italian" as "eye' tal yen"…
We mispronounce words in my family because we learn them through reading books and have never heard how other people say them. Can't think of any examples right now, though.
Hey, A secret fan comes from hiding, been keeping an eye on these comics and rambling for a while now, so finally theres a hey and a ho from me, good work crow
An accent for each country ok it is unavoidable, and in a way becomes a characterizer for each nation. An accent for each person in the world is a bit much don't you think,
It is a wordplay for sure, and most likely fertilizes that brain of yours with all sorts of puns, so don't stop it!!!
Lets just not dream of a world where people can give themselves the licence to create their own accents, it would be very confusing for everyone.
Comes in from hiding and joins the NickyNews I see. Welcome aboard!
