Now that we've had a two week run of Winston I thought it'd be fun to see where he came from. Believe it or not, the topmost Winston dates from the last century. Yup, he's been developing for quite a while. Scripts were ready to go but the bird himself just wasn't ready for prime time. So I keep experimenting and experimenting. What you see here are a few of them. How'd I finally figure it out? I decided to force the issue. Penned the first few strips with him still in the box and put 'em up. Whoa, that meant the pressure was on! Couldn't just keep him in the box forever, could I? Nothing like pressure to crystallize things.
I love how he turned out in the end. Thanks for sharing the progression.

Yeah, I can see why opposable thumbs would be a seen as a defect…especially when it comes to opening cannisters of bird food!
By the way, what happened to Olf and that mutt that were adopted. I haven’t seen them lately. (I hope Olf decides to eat Winston. I don’t like that bird.)
