As to Winston’s mohawk… all cockatoo males (and the females of most breeds) have them. In fact, Winston’s is rather bland compared to most.
Cockatoos are a very interesting pet. Just don’t get one angry. You thought an elephant had a long memory? A cockatoo (or parrot, for that matter) makes an elephant look like an amnesiac.
Those beaks aren’t just some ornament. Those beaks have serious power.
I saw a parrot cut through the struts holding a truck’s outside rear-veiw mirror. Wish I had taken a video of it…. I’m not sure if I’d believe it if I hadn’t seen it.
Imagine what that sort of cutting power could do to fingers/toes.
I must be one of the only who don’t like Winston. I’m hoping that for next Thanksgiving, Mom decides to find out if Cockatoo really does taste like chicken.
If he were a little more colorful (or have more than one shade of grey); I might like Winston.
But typical Cockatoo personality (yes, that is a typical cockatoo) has already put me off; so no, you aren’t the only one to dislike Winston immediately.
But that may be because I’ve had some bad experiences with Parrots.

Yeah, female cockatoos occasionally get their top beaks torn off because male cockatoos are so aggressive with their beaks in mating rituals. OUCH.
